I love that in the story of Noah in the bible, the dove is sent out to see whether the floodwaters had receded. Genesis 8:11 says: “When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.”
The olive branch in this story is a sign of hope, that a habitable land was on the horizon.
Later on in the bible, Jesus walks the earth. He is being baptised in the river Jordan. Matthew 3:16-17 says “At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Jesus, our hope fulfilled.
This print is a reminder to me that there is no situation I face that warrants despair if Jesus is my source of hope.
